Meet the Team


Founded in 1997, REM Finance (“REM”) has been actively engaged in commercial real estate financing, development, acquisitions and management throughout the United States. Currently REM Finance has over $500 million in real estate holdings across six states under management.

Ely Michel Ruimy


Chairman

Ely Michel is the Chairman of REM Finance. He is also joint founder of the ÆRIUM Group, and also the founder of the group’s French business, Groupe Leonard de Vinci. Ely Michel has directed and overseen all aspects of the group’s activities, including its strategy and investment policy, since 1988. Previously, he ran Württemberger Hypo Finance & Services (WHFS), a commercial mortgage entity representative in France of Württemberger Hypo Bank, a leading German commercial real estate lender. From 1986 to 1988 Ely Michel was a Managing Director in Groupe GRC’s new development business. At GRC, Ely Michel supervised the development of regional shopping centers and the execution of commercial asset securitization and sale advisory assignments totaling in excess of €3 billion.

Jim Cooper


Director, United States Operations

Jim oversees all investments and transactions for REM Finance in the United States. Jim has 20 years experience in commercial real estate site selection, acquisitions, brokerage and finance. He started his career marketing and selling large apartment communities located in the Southwestern United States. During that time he specialized in acquisitions of value-add apartment buildings for private investment groups. His experience includes raising debt and equity for investment properties throughout the United States. He is a licensed real estate broker and mortgage broker in Arizona and California. He received a BA in Economics from the University of Colorado.

Elizabeth R. Saunders, CPA


Senior Accountant

Liz oversees the internal audit program as well as the implementation and monitoring of internal controls, account reconciliation and analysis, investor reporting and special projects.  She has over 20 years of experience as a Controller in real estate acquisition, development, commercial leasing and multifamily housing companies with complex corporate structures.  Her experience includes development of management and forecasting tools, financial planning, loan compliance and investor reporting.  She received a BS in Accounting from Arizona State University and is a Certified Public Accountant in Arizona.

Ron Brock Sr.


Chairman of Investment Committee

Ron is the head of the investment committee, providing approval of property acquisitions and business plans. Founder and Retired CEO of Pierce- Eislen, a national multi-family research and market data company. Yardi System acquired Pierce-Eislen in 2013. From 1986 to 2006, Ron was the President and Designated Broker for Rand Commercial Brokers, a boutique commercial real estate brokerage company specializing in the sale of apartments.

John Horton


Analyst

John conducts the analyses surrounding the acquisition of new properties, and provides insight into the operational metrics of properties within REM’s portfolios. John graduated in 2018 Magna Cum Laude from Barrett Honors College at Arizona State University with degrees in Finance and Real Estate. During his senior year, John worked for The TanBic Company, a private equity venture fund focused on multifamily and senior living facilities in the Southwest. He was the key source for modeling, market research, and overseeing daily operations relating to assisted living / senior housing facilities. From venture capital startups to mature asset repositioning, John’s skillset is well-suited to both the front and back-ends of real estate investment and portfolio management.

Pascal Carasso


General Manager

Pascal has served as General Manager, overseeing all areas of operations for REM Finance for nearly 20 years. With a degree in Applied Mathematics and Social Sciences from Pari XII University, Pascal is an integral member of REM Finance, directing and managing all ventures within the company and serving as a key decision maker in procedural matters, including the planning, budgeting and execution of long-range plans and strategies. As a U.S. based administrator, he also serves as a critical link throughout the international platform of REM Finance, as well as a key liaison between the Company and outside consultants.

Sylvie Carasso


Executive Coordinator

Sylvie has served alongside Pascal for nearly 20 years as a key associate in the ongoing administrative management and organization of REM Finance. Sylvie effectuates and oversees the day-to-day financial, administrative and managerial duties, including office management, bookkeeping, accounting, record retention, reporting, human resources and related matters, such as licensing and other clerical responsibilities.

Sydney H. Abed


Construction Manager and Real Estate Broker

Syd is in charge of soliciting bids for all construction projects, both commercial and residential.  He defines scope of work, negotiates contracts, and oversees construction activity through completion.  He is a licensed Commercial General Contractor in Arizona and has worked with Rem Finance for the last 10 years. He has an in depth knowledge of commercial and residential construction including resolution of insurance claims. He received a Law Degree from McGill University

Sydney is an active licensed Real Estate Broker in Arizona.
